چکیده

Abstract Moving contact lines are involved in several engineering applications: in-flight icing phenomenon, the eventual transition from droplet to rivulet or continuous film regime is crucial for prediction of ice accretion over aircraft surface; absorption process through structured packing also characterized by a thin flowing corrugated sheets. Disjoining pressure together with assumption precursor largely used numerical simulations films and moving droplets order model dynamics surface wettability properties, terms imposed static angle. The disjoining was validated case falling well known Voinov-Hoffman-Tanner law. On other side, capability angle hysteresis, which parameter predicting behavior, has not been discussed yet. Here, both under lubrication approximation conducted predict line dynamics. After verification full curvature implementation 1D film, effective hysteresis estimated different flow conditions detected.

Lubrication Approximation with Prescribed Nonzero Contact Angle

We prove long{time existence for a weak solution s(t; x) 0 of the lubrication approximation @ t s + @ x (s @ 3 x s) = 0 in fs > 0g with prescribed contact angle of, say, 4 (@ x s) 2 = 1 on @fs > 0g :

Effect of contact angle hysteresis on thermocapillary droplet actuation

Open microfluidic devices based on actuation techniques such as electrowetting, dielectrophoresis, or thermocapillary stresses require controlled motion of small liquid droplets on the surface of glass or silicon substrates. In this article we explore the physical mechanisms affecting thermocapillary migration of droplets generated by surface temperature gradients on the supporting substrate. U...

A new model for contact angle hysteresis

We present a model which explains several experimental observations relating contact angle hysteresis with surface roughness. The model is based on the balance between released energy and dissipation, and it describes the stick–slip behavior of drops on a rough surface using ideas similar to those employed in dry friction, elasto– plasticity and fracture mechanics. The main results of our analy...

Contact angle hysteresis, adhesion, and marine biofouling.

Adhesive and marine biofouling release properties of coatings containing surface-oriented perfluoroalkyl groups were investigated. These coatings were prepared by cross-linking a copolymer of 1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl acrylate and acrylic acid with a copolymer of poly(2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline) and methyl methacrylate at different molar ratios. The relationships between contact angle, co...

Contact angle hysteresis on superhydrophobic stripes.

We study experimentally and discuss quantitatively the contact angle hysteresis on striped superhydrophobic surfaces as a function of a solid fraction, ϕS. It is shown that the receding regime is determined by a longitudinal sliding motion of the deformed contact line. Despite an anisotropy of the texture the receding contact angle remains isotropic, i.e., is practically the same in the longitu...
